A Brass Pooja Kindi, also known as a "brass water vessel" or "brass water pitcher," is a traditional Indian religious artifact used in Hindu rituals and ceremonies. It is specifically designed to hold and pour water during worship and purification rituals.

The Pooja Kindi is typically made of brass, a durable and auspicious metal in Hindu culture. It is crafted with a distinctive shape, often featuring a round or oval body with a narrow neck and a spout for pouring the water. The vessel may also have a handle for convenient handling.

During Hindu rituals, the Pooja Kindi is filled with water, which is then used for various purposes, including:

  1. Abhishekam: The water from the Pooja Kindi is used to bathe and anoint deities during Abhishekam, a ritual of pouring sacred substances on the deity as an act of devotion and purification.

  2. Ritual Purity: Water from the Kindi is used to purify the hands and mouth before and after prayers. Devotees sprinkle water on themselves or pour it into their palms to cleanse themselves spiritually.

  3. Offering to Deities: The water from the Pooja Kindi is used to offer a symbolic bath or sprinkle water on the deities as a form of worship and reverence.

Brass Pooja Kindis often feature decorative engravings, etchings, or patterns on the surface, enhancing their aesthetic appeal. They are considered sacred vessels and are treated with utmost respect and cleanliness.

The use of a Brass Pooja Kindi adds a traditional and ritualistic element to Hindu worship. The vessel symbolizes purity, sanctity, and the importance of water as a purifying element in religious ceremonies.

Kindi is a traditional vessel that is used to keep water beside the vishukani. Kindi is usually found in old houses in the southern part of Kerala. It was used to keep water in front of houses to wash the hands and legs of visitors who come to the house. Kindi is made with bell metal which is also used during pooja in temples or in houses to keep holy water. The shape of Kindi is very effective to minimize water loss while washing the feet or hands. While using Kindi, the hands of the user never touch the water inside the Kindi, so that water never gets contaminated. In the Indian-origin religions, the lota is a multipurpose utensil. It is also used in sacred rituals, such as yagna, pooja prayers, weddings, and other sacred ceremonies. Mostly, Kindi is placed on a wooden stand/ peedom. Kindi has a wide mouth and a tail portion.
