Kindi is a traditional vessel that is used to keep water beside the vishukani. Kindi is usually found in old houses in the southern part of Kerala. It was used to keep water in front of houses to wash the hands and legs of visitors who come to the house. Kindi is made with bell metal which is also used during pooja in temples or in houses to keep holy water. The shape of Kindi is very effective to minimize water loss while washing the feet or hands. While using Kindi, the hands of the user never touch the water inside the Kindi, so that water never gets contaminated. In the Indian-origin religions, the lota is a multipurpose utensil.
